Curator Statement

Beyond Ordinary Gallery was founded with a simple belief, that wood burned art deserves to be seen, studied, and collected as a contemporary art.

For many years, pyrography has existed largely outside the traditional gallery system, often categorized as craft despite the remarkable level of skill and artistic vision required to work successfully within the medium. Yet artists working with wood burning tools continue to produce work of extraordinary depth, complexity, and originality.

The exhibitions presented here seek to highlight artists who approach pyrography as a serious artistic discipline. Through careful control of line, tonal variation, and surface, these artists create work that ranges from intricate realism to expressive contemporary imagery.

Beyond Ordinary Gallery aims to provide a space where these works can be viewed together, allowing audiences to see the breadth of artistic possibilities within the medium.
